Agatha has not been nice to Guatemala.

First a volcanic explosion. Now a tropical storm.

“By the end of Sunday, May 30, these were the figures 82 dead, 111,964 evacuees, 29,245 in shelters, 13 bridges collapsed, [many] roads blocked by landslides or floods…” from antiguadailyphoto.com

The poorest are normally the most affected because their houses, often built on steep mountains or in the ravines of the city, just wash away…

But it just doesn’t seem right that the poor always cop it the worst.

Today my heart aches for Guatemala. (and the rest of Central America affected).

Glad this didn’t happen while I was on Volcan Pacaya….

I climbed this volcano a little over a year ago. This was it the other night:

It looks pretty. But so far it has managed to kill 3 people and shut Guatemala City down. Apparently its raining ash and stones.

Thoughts and prayers with everyone in the city.
